Terry Murphy, who was born in 1948 in Columbus, Ohio; is remembered by many as an anchor of the syndicated tabloid news program Hard Copy.
Terry Murphy had begun her career at what was one of my favorite television stations when it was a CBS affiliate-Storer Broadcasting’s WJBK-TV in the 1970’s, followed by a stop at ABC owned & operated WLS-TV in Chicago from 1976-1980-a position that was offered to her by ABC executives when they felt that her presence at WJBK-TV was a threat to the ratings of the newscasts of their own station in Detroit, WXYZ-TV; and they had felt that by offering her a position at one of their own stations and by getting her out of the Detroit market, that any threats to the ratings of WXYZ-TV’s would be alleviated.
Her stint at WLS-TV was followed by another one at CBS’s owned and operated station in Los Angeles, KCBS-TV from 1980-1984; followed by a stop at ABC’s owned and operated station in Los Angeles, KABC-TV from 1984-1987; back at KCBS-TV from 1987-1989, followed by her accepting the position that had been offered to her by Paramount Television as an anchor of the syndicated tabloid news program Hard Copy.
