According to this article, the scenes that took place in Great Britain were shot on location in the British Isles in October, 1991; the scenes that took place in Annapolis proper and especially in the Naval Academy were filmed in late November, 1991; and the house where the fictional Ryan family had resided was indeed in California-located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, and made to look like a partly sunny and often gloomy Maryland Autumn than the typical scenery of Southern California.
Contrary to how unsatisfied Mr. Clancy was with the film adaptation of the novel that he wrote, that had reached print in 1987; the owner of this very blog personally thinks that the film adaptation of ‘Patriot Games’ is a superb movie, this movie had gone on to generate a total of $178 million dollars from a total of box offices of several nations the world over from June, 1992 until November, 1992.
