Photos of the dealership where my father had purchased his Spanish Green Type 53 Sirocco second hand, Robert Zankl Volkswagen in Sterling Heights; later purchased by the Tamaroff Automotive Group and became a Mazda and a Yugo dealership in addition to being a Volkswagen outlet; prior to being purchased even later by Vyletel and the dealership being moved in house with Vyletel’s Buick dealership on Van Dyke and 18 1/2 Mile Road; still in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
These photos were taken by the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Club in 1989, during a rally that the club was holding for vintage air-cooled Volkswagens at this time; not too long before the dealership had been purchased by Vyletel and moved to Vyletel’s location Van Dyke and 18 1/2 Mile Road.

An A3 Golf located in Detroit City Proper.
Sadly, this A3 Golf seems to have been neglected and abused, with the left rear wheel not even being one of the stock steel wheels, and there being some rust on the hood, many dents in the body and many scratches in the paint.

For those of you who are not in the know, and are not from the United Kingdom; ITV, along with Channel 4 are the UK’s two private television network’s; as opposed to the BBC’s television service; along with it’s domestic radio service and international radio (World Service); are owned, operated; and controlled directly by the British government.
Below is a video of ITV promos and identifications from December, 1989.
Occurrences in the United Kingdom in the year 1989 that are as equally important as ITV running these promos and identifications as of this time are: Land Rover having introduced the Discovery, and the Discovery having gone into production for the very first time this year; how many Range Rovers Land Rover had sold this year, this being the last year that the conventional Land Rover would be known as the Ninety & One Ten before it would be given an actual name-Defender a year later; how many conventional Land Rovers the company had sold this year; the Honda/Acura Legend-based Rover 800 passenger car having replaced the SD1 (which had shared many parts with the Range Rover) a few years earlier in 1986; how many cars Volkswagen/Audi had sold in the UK this year (including Golfs, Passats; and Transporters), and how many cars Daimler-Benz had sold in the UK this year (including UK sales of the W201, W140; and W126).
Furthermore, more occurrences in the United Kingdom in the year 1989 that are as equally important as ITV running these promos and identifications as of this time are: how many Fiestas, European Escorts, Sierras, Scorpios, Transits; and P100s Ford’s European arm had sold in the UK this year.

I sort of like this current Volkswagen commercial, with the Volkswagen Type 1, A1 Golf/Rabbit, one of my favorite generations of Passat as a wagon-the B3; and one of my favorite generations of Golf as a Cabriolet-the A3.
As you know if you’ve been following this blog for a while, I am not fond of modern commercials, period; and end of story.
Also, I would prefer that the children sit in the front seat rather than the backseat.

As I have stated in earlier posts, I have absolutely zero tolerance for rat rods. No tolerance whatsoever.
I only accept vehicles that are fully resorted or are in original showroom condition.
It makes me sad, angry, and ticked off with what somebody had done to this S30 Z-car, including stripping the paint off of it.
It also makes me sad, angry, and ticked off with what these young, punk kids had done to one of my favorite generations of Volkswagen Golf-the A3. Including stripping the paint off of it. Saying that this puts a steak in my heart with any Volkswagen, or any other European car being ruined like this; is an understatement.

More Volkswagen material that’s pertinent to the production of the Arthur movie for adults.

Website with information pertaining to the A2 Golf/Jetta.
This information will be critical during the production of the Arthur movie for adults with regards to drawing the animated A2 Golf, A1 Golf Cabriolet, Corrado, and T3 Transporter/Vanagon that Arthur’s parents own, replicating the Volkswagen gasoline and diesel engine sounds; and replicating the Volkswagen chime when the ignition switch is turned.

Volkswagen had produced the A1 Golf/Rabbit Pickup truck in South Africa until 2006 as the Citi Golf Bakkie, and in Europe until 1996 as the 1st generation Volkswagen Caddy.
Volkswagen had conceived the A1 pickup truck originally as an experiment, along with an A1 station wagon, Volkswagen’s head office didn’t want to go through with the production of either one, but Volkswagen of America wanted to conceive the pickup truck for production in their newly-acquired Westmoreland, Pennsylvania assembly plant.
When the production of the A1 was halted in the Westmoreland, Pennsylvania and in the Puebla, Mexico assembly plants to retool in preparation for and begin production of the A2 for the North American market; the tooling for the A1 pickup truck was shipped to a plant in South Africa and a plant in Europe to continue production in those market until the 1990’s and the 2000’s.
Pictured below is a late-model A1 pickup truck located in a town in Northern Greece near the Turkish, Bulgarian, and Macedonian borders.
Parked a couple spaces back from this A1 Golf/Rabbit pickup truck is a T2 Transporter/Microbus pickup truck model.
