“Those who tell the stories rule the world,” Hopi Nation proverb Paulette Kilmer Television tapped into our human hunger for stories. Like earlier forms of media, TV’s narratives told us who we were, where we belonged in society, and how to identify outsiders who differed from us. For example, some television series framed plots around […]
Like many Neo-Country Music Artists, Walker Hayes’ music is junk; when compared to the likes of Dottie West, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Naomi & Wynonna Judd, Kenny Rogers, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., and Brenda Lee.
Not only does Walker Hayes need to be transformed from being fit and muscular to being fat and overweight, but Walker Hayes also needs to comprehend that the Automotive world as a whole, Ham Radio, and Commercial Broadcast Radio and Television are all more important than Sports and Fitness.
A Pleasant Plantation-Style Home With A Semi-Detached Garage On A Lot Of Property In North Carolina That Was Razed In Favor Of An Entire Paltry Subdivision Being Built On The Property:
The paltry subdivision that is being erected on the property:
I am very saddened over the former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter; receiving Hospice Care, and nearing the end of his natural life.
The Term ‘Deeply Saddened’ Is An Understatement With Regards To The Recent Death (As Of The Time Of Writing This Post) Of Burt Bacharach.
I’ve always liked many of the songs that Burt Bacharach wrote, including those performed by Dionne Warwick and the husband and wife musical duo The Carpenters (not to be confused with the School Bus body manufacturer Carpenter, which was in business from 1918-2001).
If you’ve been following this Blog for a while, you know that the one and only aspect pertaining to Sports that I care about is the Broadcasting aspect of them.
I am very saddened over the death of NBC and CBS College Basketball Announcer Billy Packer.
While at NBC, as NBC still held the Television rights to the NCAA Basketball at this time; Billy Packer had worked with Curt Gowdy at Dick Enberg.
Neal Pilson, during his first tenure as the President of CBS Sports; was instrumental in grabbing the Television rights to the NCAA Basketball from NBC; and hired Billy Packer alongside acquiring the NCAA Basketball Television rights from NBC.
While at CBS, Billy Packer had worked alongside Brent Musberger, Jim Nantz, and Dick Stockton; before Dick Stockton’s hiring by FOX when Rupert Murdoch had successfully wrested the NFL AFC Television rights away from CBS for the first time in nearly 40 years.
Prior to Rupert Murdoch wresting the NFL AFC Television Rights away from CBS in 1993, effective beginning with the 1994-1995 NFL Season; CBS had held the NFL AFC Television rights since 1956.
The Term ‘Deeply Saddened’ Is An Understatement With Regards To How I Feel About The Recent Passing Of The Lead Singer Of The Band ‘The Pointer Sisters’, Anita Pointer.
I’ve liked, and I still like the Pointer Sisters’ music, as well as the music resulting from the solo career of Bonnie Pointer.
The Term ‘Deeply Saddened’ Is An Understatement With Regards To How I Feel About The Recent Passing Of NBC and ABC News Journalist Barbara Walters.
When Barbara Walters was hired away from NBC by William “Bill” Sheehan (who was Roone Arledge’s direct predecessor as the President of ABC News) to work for ABC; all of the male News Reporters who were working for ABC at the time had loathed her. In due time, Barbara Walters had earned all of the respect that she deserved from her male colleagues at ABC, and then some.
After Barbara Walters was hired by ABC, and after a failed attempt by ABC to compete with Walter Cronkite’s CBS Evening News with ABC’s own Evening News Program, prior to Roone Arledge creating “World News Tonight” with Frank Reynolds, Peter Jennings, and Max Robinson; Bill Sheehan had paired Barbara Walters with Harry Reasoner (who was recently hired away from CBS) to jointly anchor an earlier ABC Evening News Program.
This earlier ABC Evening News program was a failure, mostly because of much of the nation’s audience being dyed in the wool with regards to their viewing habits consisting of Walter Cronkite’s CBS Evening News; but also because of Harry Reasoner wanting to co-anchor the program with another journalist who was into Hard News, Hard News was not Barbara Walter’s forte, Harry Reasoner had an anathema towards Barbara Walters, this earlier Evening News program by ABC had folded, and Harry Reasoner had gone back to work at CBS; where he would report for “60 Minutes” right up until his retirement in 1991.
Our first get together since COVID struck. It was nice to see some old faces and to meet some new faces that we’ve only heard on our morning Coastal Ham Radio Fresgo Healthcare net on 147.360 (Surrey Repeater.) A few others joined us but left before I remembered to take the pic. From the entire […]
