Sportscaster Marv Albert during his time at WHN-AM when it was owned and operated by Storer Broadcasting/Storer Communications; and WNBC-AM before NBC had sold most of their owned and operated Radio Stations to Emmis Communications in 1987.
This was, of course; before NBC had acquired the Television Rights to the NBA from CBS in 1989, effective beginning with the 1990-1991 season; and NBC Sports would use Marv Albert for NBC’s Television coverage of the NBA during the entirety of the 1990’s, and during the early 2000’s, up until ABC Sports and ESPN would grab the Television rights for the NBA from NBC, effective beginning with the 2002-2003 season.
To work at WNBC-AM, Marv Albert simply had to take the Elevator within NBC’s Headquarters and Production Facilities located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza from whichever Floor of Rockefeller Plaza NBC Sports was located, to the 7th and 8th Floors of Rockefeller Plaza where WNBC-AM and WYNY-FM (nee WNBC-FM) were located.
An Article From A Commercial Broadcast Radio Trade Magazine About A Survey Revealing Surprising Results About Young, Radical People And Their Patronage Of Commercial Broadcast AM And FM Radio Stations.
All I can say is thank goodness Commercial Broadcast Radio might have a promising future, and Audio Streaming and Podcasts may not supplant Commercial Broadcast Radio after all.
Let’s hope that Commercial Broadcast Shortwave Radio has just as promising of a future, and that the hobby of Amateur/Ham Radio also just as promising of a future.
All in all, let’s hope that Commercial Broadcast AM/Mediumwave, FM, and Shortwave Radio; and the hobby of Amateur/Ham Radio are around for millennia to come.
I am saddened over the voiceover person of the WTAR Stations, Bernard “Bernie” Meltzer having passed away.
Even after WTAR-TV was sold off to separate owners in 1981, and changed its call letters to WTKR-TV; Bernie Melter stayed on as the Television Station’s voiceover person.
An article about Amelia Earhart’s communication on Amateur Radio Bands, before the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) had allocated a specific Band spectrum for Aircraft communication.
As a Radio (and overall Broadcasting, and Amateur/Ham Radio) enthusiast, and as someone who is highly fond of the AM/Mediumwave Band; I congratulate John Gabrysch for winning the Excellence in Engineering Award for developing tools and methodologies for analyzing interference in the AM/Mediumwave Band:
Unlike the relatives that I never, ever meant to have anything to do with, and never want to have anything to do with; Warren Consolidated Schools Teachers Julie Stanaway, Carolyn Armbruster, Carolyn Ann Tuzzo, Celia Socha, Mary Ellen Green, Ann Kolinski, Julie Dean, Steve Gerling, Terri Dworkin, Patricia Venaleck, Jill Alred, Gilka Calazans-Paxton, and Julie Stegman? What is the purpose of Shannon also behaving as cold Warren Consolidated Schools School Bus Drivers Kim “Froggie” Proch, Mary Behr, Penny Orban, Anne Waldowski, Cheryl “Sherry” Bacarella-Misiak, and Anita Jacob; the Publisher of the the World Radio and Television Handbook (WRTH) understands people like yours truly, who are passionate about Amateur/Ham Radio, and Commercial Broadcast Radio and Television.
During a survey that the Publisher of the World Radio and Television Handbook (WRTH) had for customers and readers of their Book, of which new, updated Editions are released annually; they asked what your reason(s) for purchasing copies of the World Radio and Television Handbook (WRTH) when new, updated Editions are released each year, and I honestly stated that I am a dedicated Radio Hobbyist/DXer.
Up until the mid-2000’s, even my parents did not understand my fascination with Amateur/Ham Radio, and Commercial Broadcast Radio and Television.
This screenshot of the Survey put forth by the Publisher of the World Radio and Television Handbook (WRTH) website was taken with a Portable Computer that is more commonly known these days as a Smart Cellular Telephone:
Well, what do you know? A Radio Station transmitting in the 5 Gigahertz Band normally allocated for Cellular Telephone service is scheduled to sign on the air in the not too distant future (as of the time of writing this post).
