A Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup with a Big Block V8 from the factory, dubbed the “454 SS” as it’s trim level; is a sport pickup truck that is only one of two 1/2 ton pickup trucks to be produced with a Big Block V8 engine-the 454 cubic inch Big Block V8 engine. The 454 SS GMT400 pickup also featured the heavier-duty TH400 and it’s electronically-controlled, 4-speed successor: the 4L80-E; another rarity for a half-ton pickup, and the only other half-ton pickups and SUVs to feature the TH400 and the 4L80-E were those with the 6.2 and 6.5 Liter Diesel engines (both built by Detroit Diesel), also a rarity for a 1/2 ton pickup truck or SUV.
The 454 SS GMT400 pickup featured a combination of blacked out trim and red trim, to make it distinguishable from an ordinary GMT400 Regular Cab Short Bed pickup truck.
Also, one of my two favorite colors of a vehicle interior; Red (the other is Blue) , was the only way the 454 SS GMT400 pickup came as.
The only other 1/2 ton pickup to be built with a Big Block V8 from the factory is a performance-oriented version of the 1969-1972 generation of GM truck that was produced with the 402 or 427 cubic inch Big Block V8s.

Beginning in 1992, the 454 SS GMT400 pickups were also offered in Summit White and in Victory Red, in addition to the Onyx Black exterior color they were offered in from the very beginning. Also beginning in 1992, the 454 SS GMT400 pickup began to be offered with interior colors other than one of my personal favorite interior colors; Red. Below is a 1993 model pictured in Victory Red.
