I Am Saddened Over The Recent Passing Of Actor, Television Personality, And Game Show Host Chuck Woolery.
Below are videos of episodes of Wheel of Fortune during the time it was networked by NBC Television, prior to it being syndicated; during Chuck Woolery’s tenure prior to Pat Sajak having been hired away from WSM-AM and WSM-TV/WSMV-TV as Woolery’s replacement as the Host of ‘Wheel’, and of the transition from Chuck Woolery to Pat Sajak as the Host of ‘Wheel’. Strangely enough, “Wheel Of Fortune” was originally conceived by one time NBC Daytime President Lin Bolen (who holds the credit for serving as the first Female Vice President of a Radio and/or Television Network) as an effort to increase NBC’s viewership during the Daytime among women, competing directly with CBS’s more successful Daytime Game Show lineup; including “The Price Is Right”.
Ironically, Merv Griffin was also responsible for the launch of Wheel Of Fortune; as he was looking to develop a Game Show consisting of a Game based on Hangman that he had personally played with his sister on long car rides their parents had dragged them on, he had pitched the idea to Lin Bolen; and Lin Bolen tweaked the idea to make it more appealing to women, and had also made it her own in the process.
Below is an Article from The New York Times regarding the passing of Lin Bolen in 2018:
