If you’ve been following this Blog for a while, you know that the one and only aspect pertaining to Sports that I care about is the Broadcasting aspect of them.
I am very saddened over the death of NBC and CBS College Basketball Announcer Billy Packer.
While at NBC, as NBC still held the Television rights to the NCAA Basketball at this time; Billy Packer had worked with Curt Gowdy at Dick Enberg.
Neal Pilson, during his first tenure as the President of CBS Sports; was instrumental in grabbing the Television rights to the NCAA Basketball from NBC; and hired Billy Packer alongside acquiring the NCAA Basketball Television rights from NBC.
While at CBS, Billy Packer had worked alongside Brent Musberger, Jim Nantz, and Dick Stockton; before Dick Stockton’s hiring by FOX when Rupert Murdoch had successfully wrested the NFL AFC Television rights away from CBS for the first time in nearly 40 years.
Prior to Rupert Murdoch wresting the NFL AFC Television Rights away from CBS in 1993, effective beginning with the 1994-1995 NFL Season; CBS had held the NFL AFC Television rights since 1956.
