Like all of ABC’s other owned and operated FM stations, under the aegis of Allen Shaw; WABC-FM had at first, aired the automated “Love” format; then had a live, full-time Hard Rock format as the call letters WPLJ-FM; and ABC’s flagship FM station, since the early 1980’s, often on had a Top 40, Hot AC; and Urban formats, was sold along with the remainder of ABC’s Radio business in the late 2000’s to Citadel Broadcasting, Citadel had later merged with Cumulus; and Cumulus, in turn; had sold what was originally WJZ-FM, and later WABC-FM in 2018, with the changeover in both owners and the format to take place in May, 2019.

WPLJ-FM’s sister station, KLOS-FM (originally KECA-FM, then KABC-FM) is also for sale by Cumulus as of the time writing this post.
