I am not surprised, and nor do I have any hard feelings over the ABC Television Network (owned by the Walt Disney Company, who had purchased it from Capital Cities Communications, who, in turn; had purchased it from founder Leonard Goldenson) having canceled the revised iteration of Roseanne Barr’s sitcom over the insidious comments that Roseanne Barr herself had posted on the Social website Twitter about Bill & Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea, and about a former aide of Barack Obama during both of his terms as President of the United States.
Even during the original run of Roseanne Barr’s sitcom on the ABC Television Network from 1988-1997, I didn’t have any interest in her or her well-regarded and very successful sitcom; and I would have much rather watched whatever was on the CBS Television network-including Murphy Brown, the television program titled “Murder, She Wrote” starring Angela Lansbury; and Diagnosis: Murder starring Dick Van Dyke and his son Barry.
And also during the time of the original run of Roseanne Barr’s sitcom, I would have rather watched the original incarnation of the CBS This Morning News show with Harry Smith, Kathleen Sullivan (after CBS had hired her away from ABC), Paula Zahn, Connie Chung, Jane Robelot; and Mark McEwen with the Weather, instead of Good Morning America with Charlie Gibson, Joan Lunden, and Spencer Christian with the Weather; and most certainly instead of NBC’s Today Show. And I would have much rather watched the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather (who, in turn; had succeeded Walter Cronkite as the anchor of the CBS Evening News in 1981 after Cronkite’s 20 year-long tenure as the anchor of the CBS Evening News beginning in 1961) than ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings; and most certainly instead of NBC’s Nightly News with Tom Brokaw (who, in turn; had succeeded John Chancellor as the anchor of NBC’s Nightly News as a consolation prize to keep Brokaw from moving to ABC News by the way of Roone Arledge trying to make Brokaw an offer that he couldn’t refuse, to try and tempt Brokaw to move to ABC News).
Note: Roone Arledge had also tried to lure Dan Rather away from CBS News and over to ABC News, and NBC had tried to do the same; as Bill Small, the longtime head of the CBS News Washington D.C bureau and later the second in charge for the entire CBS News department in New York; was upset that he had been passed up for the job as the head of the entire CBS News Department in circa 1978-1979 in favor of a man whose name is Pete Salant. So an upset Bill Small had left CBS altogether to take the position as the head of NBC’s News department, had already taken Roger Mudd and Marvin Kalb away from CBS with him; and had also tried to take Dan Rather to NBC with him; all as Cronkite had been forced into retirement in 1981 due to the mandatory retirement age that CBS had in place at the time; but the attempts on Rather by ABC and NBC had failed as Rather had edged out Roger Mudd just prior to his departure for NBC, and also Bob Schieffer for the position as the anchor for the CBS Evening News.
I never cared about Roseanne Barr having originally came from a lowly Trailer Park lifestyle, an upbringing akin to Tonya Harding’s upbringing; and her lowlife personality being the reason as to why her sitcom was successful amongst those who live in rural areas within the entire United States, and people who live in Trailer Parks throughout the United States just like how she had done for most of her adult life prior to her successful sitcom making her rich and famous. The one and only aspect of Roseanne Barr that I ever cared about is her being of mixed Russian and Ukrainian descent on her father’s side; and her last name having originally been Borisofsky prior to her paternal grandfather immigrating to the United States from Eastern Europe by the way of Ellis Island, and changing the family’s surname to ‘Barr’ in the process.
In my Arthur book and movie for adults, I write about in the book, and would cast Roseanne Barr in the movie as a member of Dick Purtan’s morning radio show and her being one of “Purtan’s People” due to her being as incessantly and wildly zany as Dick Purtan himself.
