The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Evening Newscast Titled The National

When the CBC had drastically and radically overhauled its News Department in 2009 to be something like a “CNN of the North”, with more trivial, non-newsworthy; and more tabloid content than before-following in the footsteps of the CBC’s privately-held American counterparts, such as CBS, ABC; and NBC since the mid-late 1990’s; and definitely the Australian-American FOX Broadcasting Company with regards to including trivial, non-newsworthy; and tabloid content to its newscasts; I was not happy.

As part of this overhaul of their News Department in 2009, I was not happy with the CBC, for the first time over; having altered The National to where Peter Mansbridge now stood up in lieu of sitting down-like what he was supposed to do all along whilst delivering all segments of the newscast, the anchor desk being small, narrow; and being akin to a bar with a beer tap (sans the actual beer tap); the News Department had redesigned the set to mix the color blue in with the prior set’s colors of red and white, ridiculously hip music cues by a musical group titled the “Eggplant Collective” were composed and used from this point forward; and the program’s logos and graphic fonts being changed to use Christian Schwartz’s Stag typeface at this time.

I was hoping that the CBC’s News Department would revert to its old ways, and would even revert to The National’s opening that it had used from 1982-1992 whilst utilizing a fanfare that the Canadian Brass had composed for the program that the musical group had simply titled The National.

Now, with the CBC’s News Department revamping The National for the first time in a decade (as of the time of writing this post) where The National really isn’t a news program any longer, but is more of a foddering talk show with just four anchors casually chatting and gossiping about the day’s news; really makes me unhappy.
