Though I don’t have any interest in the newest-generation of Midsize Pickup Trucks due to the resurgence of the market for smaller Pickup Trucks in North America; I am writing this post in response to Ford bringing their global Ranger Pickup Truck to the North American market; and rekindling a rivalry that had begun in the 1970’s with GM’s Isuzu-sourced LUV, Ford’s Mazda-sourced Courier, and Chrysler’s (Dodge/Plymouth) Mitsubishi-sourced D-50; and continued throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s with the Chevrolet S-10/GMC S-15/Sonoma (which had replaced General Motors’ usage of the LUV) and the first and second generations of the Ford Ranger (which had replaced Ford’s sale of the Courier only in the North American market, but elsewhere in the world-Ford continued to sell a rebadged Mazda mini-pickup).
