I am very happy to hear that Ford’s Medium-Duty truck business is being resurgent for the first time since they had sold their original foray into this business to Daimler/Freightliner to become Sterling in 1996.
I am also happy to hear that consumers are moving from companies whose core business is producing Medium & Heavy-Duty trucks (such as IH/Navistar, Freightliner, and PACAAR) to Ford’s Medium-Duty trucks. 20 years ago, this was not the case as around the time Ford had sold their original Medium & Heavy-Duty truck division to Daimler/Freightliner in 1996, and the years in the 1990’s leading up to it; Ford was losing market share to these companies whose core business is Medium & Heavy-Duty trucks; as was also General Motors before they had exited the Medium-Duty truck business in 2009.
Ford had even helped Daimler/Freightliner develop their FS-65 School Bus chassis & cowl, but had then figuratively stabbed Ford in the back in terms of eating away Ford’s market share of the Type C School Bus chassis & cowl market entirely; and had helped spell the doom for GM’s presence in the Type C School Bus chassis & cowl market, which was already strictly limited to Blue Bird’s usage of it as a result of an agreement that GM and Blue Bird had signed in the early 1990’s to be the sole user of their chassis & cowl.
