This Front Engine Blue Bird TC/2000 is apparently a special-order unit because it has the Rear Engine rear end cap for use as a rear storage compartment, and it has the heavier-duty MT-643 automatic transmission as opposed to the lighter-duty AT-545 automatic transmission that was supposedly the one and only automatic transmission that was available in the Front Engine TC/2000 alongside the Spicer manual transmission.
I’ve heard of Rear Engine Transit rear end caps being ordered on Conventionals and Front Engine Transits in lieu of the rear emergency door so that the bus could have a rear storage compartment, but never did I ever hear of a Front Engine TC/2000 being special-ordered with the Allison MT-643 automatic transmission.
The TC/2000 was the lighter-duty companion to the All American, and the Front Engine model wasn’t originally designed to accommodate any other engine besides the Cummins B-platform diesel engine and the GM 427 cubic inch Big Block V8 gasoline engine, the Allison AT-545 automatic transmission; and the Spicer manual transmission.
Only the Rear Engine TC/2000 was offered with the Caterpillar 3116 in addition to the Cummins B-platform, no gasoline engine; and the Allison MT-643 automatic transmission in addition to the Allison AT-545 automatic transmission.
