School bus, SUV involved in crash

A School Bus crash had occurred where John Roeck had retired from, and where my mother works as a bus driver in “Early Life And Continuous Livelihood”.

The bus that was involved in this accident is a 2012 90 passenger Front Engine Blue Bird All American with the Cummins B-platform engine and the Allison/World 3000 transmission that was produced well after Blue Bird’s quality, fit, and finish had gone downhill.

The numbers marked on the School Bus “12-7” are Warren Consolidated Schools’ way of indicating that the bus is a 2012 model, and is the 7th bus that the school district had acquired that year.

The designation also indicates where on the lot at the transportation department the bus has to be parked when it’s not being driven. For instance, it has to be parked in between 12-6 and 12-8. And because at the moment this post is being written, it is beginning to be a middle-aged bus; it is parked in the middle of the lot, and it is put on a route with a mix of Elementary and Middle Schools; and a driver with at least 7-8 years of seniority is allowed to take a route with a bus this old.

Whereas the oldest buses in the fleet that are used as spares are parked on the side of the building, and the second to oldest buses that are used only on the shortest routes-routes that only include Elementary Schools and drivers that are newly hired up to drivers who have about 7 years of seniority; are parked in the rear of the lot. And drivers on these shortest routes that include the second to oldest buses have to walk from the transportation building all the way to the rear of the lot to get to their assigned bus.

STERLING HEIGHTS — A Grissom Middle School student was taken to a local hospital for observation after a Warren Consolidated Schools bus was involved in a traffic incident at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 27.
