As Morley Safer Retires, ’60 Minutes’ Looks Back On A Storied Career

I am very saddened by the death of Morley Safer. I am well aware of the legacy that he leaves behind at CBS News, and his career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) prior to joining CBS News in 1964.

Morley Safer was there to work with Walter Cronkite in Vietnam, and had joined 60 Minutes in 1970 to work with Dan Rather, Mike Wallace; and the program’s creator-CBS Evening News producer Don Hewitt.

Morley Safer was honored for his long and distinguished career in a “60 Minutes” special Sunday night, as he formally retires after 46 seasons with the program.
