Video from 1959 of the opening by ABC of the WXYZ Radio & Television Broadcast House.
WXYZ’s Broadcast House is a converted farmhouse. A farmhouse and surrounding farmland that ABC had purchased in 1958 and had converted into it’s radio and television broadcasting facilities.
The WXYZ stations had moved out of their studios in the Maccabees building in Detroit city proper when they had moved into their new facilities in 1959.
The WXYZ stations had their studios in the Maccabees building when King-Trendle Broadcasting had owned WXYZ-AM, when ABC had acquired WXYZ-AM in 1947, when ABC had put WXYZ-TV on the air in 1948, and also in 1948; when ABC had put WXYZ-FM (later to become WRIF-FM) on the air.
